A Model Public/Private Partnership
with the District of Columbia Public Schools
to Serve Students with Autism
In September 2012, then DC Mayor Vincent Gray selected Ivymount as the educational partner for the re-opening of the historic Thaddeus Stevens Elementary School, located in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of the city. Also selected, as the development partner, was Akridge and Argos Group who committed to financing the renovation and turn-key delivery of the school building with an expected opening within the 2017-18 school year.
The DCPS/Ivymount Partnership Program at the Stevens School will be modeled after the Ivymount School program in Rockville, MD, an 11-month school year program that utilizes an integrated team approach to the delivery of educational and therapeutic services for students with autism and related disorders. As an essential component to this partnership, Ivymount will additionally train DCPS teaching staff to support not only the students enrolled at Ivymount at the Stevens School but also those in other DCPS and public charter schools as a way of building capacity for students with autism and related disorders across the city.
